Hey Albany: No more abusing the rules for phony "ethics reform".

On August 12th, the State Senate finally sent the supposedly urgent “ethics reform” bill (S8160) to Governor Cuomo’s desk. That happened 56 days after the bill was passed with a Message of Necessity that skipped a constitutionally mandated three-day review period.

This isn’t just dysfunction. This is deliberate manipulation of the system by those in power, in direct opposition to the will of the people. It has gone on too long, and has to stop.

This is your chance to show you're paying attention New York. Demand better.

Albany is continuing their unethical push for phony “ethics reform.”

Late last week the Senate finally sent the supposedly urgent “ethics reform” bill (S8160) to Governor Cuomo’s desk. That happened 56 days after the bill was passed with a Message of Necessity that skipped a constitutionally mandated three-day review period.

Let’s just make this clear. Albany said this bill was so urgent and necessary that not even the legislators who voted on it, could be allowed time to read the bill. Yet, the Senate sat on it for 56 days before sending it to Governor Cuomo.

That’s not even the end of it. The bill is still unsigned, and the clock is still ticking. The longer this goes, the more loud and clear Albany’s message gets: they don’t have to play by the rules.

Not to mention, the content of the bill tells every New Yorker that Albany does not think it has a corruption problem to fix. In fact, they think it’s you that’s the problem. It’s people organizing and speaking out on issues that should be the focus of more onerous regulation, not the practices that got Sheldon Silver and Dean Skelos sentenced to jail time.

Give us a break.

This isn’t just dysfunction. This is deliberate manipulation of the system by those in power, in direct opposition to the will of the people. It has gone on too long, and has to stop.

It’s up to New Yorkers to stand up and fix what their elected representatives have broken.
